Here are some hints for the quest of getting efficient and more than fluent:

-move your ass to an english speaking country, AND:
-have an activity (aviation training, a job...) that involves using english several hours a day, and:
-watch a movie EVERYDAY and repeat each single sentence to practice your pronouciation, your accent (record your voice if necessary and compare it), and:
-have some study material concerning aviation english (radio), learn it everyday, and:
-buy "english grammar in use", Raymond Murphy, Cambridge university press, (3 levels): do one exercise every day.

6 month after you'll be fine, but as you see it requires a bit more than coming to an english speaking country only... You have to do what it takes.

I agree with all of your ideas, but I think all of the tips to get better in english without going to UK or other english speakers country is good to have.

In my case, for instance, I couldn't go to UK --> I'm working, I'm doing my ATPL by Elearning, I'm married.... It's very hard to do. So, sentence like "Move your ASS in UK" must be moderated.

So, I think it's possible to improve the english level in Belgium by myself. I write all of my EMail in English, I listen to the radio a lot in English, I try to go to discussion tables,...

but for sure, to get the best level, 6 months in UK is the best solution !

Yup, they're pretty damn good. I didn't like much the cd that comes with it though.
I bought the "American Accent Training", they give hints on the pronunciation and intonation side of it, and it does help a lot. It caught my fancy at least ..

Well, no, he's got a point. You obviously can improve the grammar, spelling, listening skills and stuff like that without living in an english-speaking country. That's why I created this thread with the hints ..
What would work best though, and by far, would be to follow those hints while being abroad.
How about going to England for one or two years .. ish, get a job over there, and get some in-depth experience ?
Most people here want to be commercial pilots, including you from what I understand. At some point, you're gonna have to move out somewhere to get to fly that plane. That could be anywhere on the globe, and it's never gonna be the right time. Good luck mate [/code]

J'ai téléchargé des podcast sur l'IStore (notamment ESL Podcast qui sont très très bien), je lis tous les livres que je trouve en anglais (j'ai acheté 2 Harry Potter et autres à Emmaus pour les économies lol) et après depuis dja longtemps je cherche la traduction des chansons étrangères que j'adore et l'air de rien, ça aide vachement. Du coup je suis passée de 8 de moyenne en 2nde à 15 en TS... Je n'ai pas l'occasion de voyager car c'est très cher et je suis "trop" jeune, du coup je fais ce que je peux en gardant l'espoir de passer le concours EPL en 2012 et de ne pas me faire recaler aux écrits (plutot aux psy... :/). Donc voilà, si vous avez un ipod et autres téléchargez tous les podcast que vous trouvez pour apprendre l'anglais et vous perfectionner, moi je les écoute tous les jours dans le bus. Et comme dit en première page, regarder les séries en streaming sous titré et les vieux films en VOSTFR... sinon passez deux mois aux USA

Et au bout de quelques épisodes tu es plus habitué à l'accent et la manière de parler des acteurs et tu peux regarder l'épisode d'après sans sous titres.

Aah ok J'ai toujours peur de pas saisir le sens des mots alors je me dis que ça ne sert à rien de regarder quelque chose, de l'entendre et de le lire si je n'en connais pas la vraie traduction... c'est comme se priver d'ouvrir un dico quand on est face à un mot qu'on ne comprend pas. Mais je suivrai votre conseil pour mes prochains Hitchcock

Sinon, sur youtube, vous tapez "Learn English", il y a une flopée de vidéos très interressantes, et notamment "Steve Ford" qui sont vraiment très interressante pour apprendre

Est-ce que quelqu'un a des conseils pour améliorer son parlé ? Car même si je m'entraîne à lire des textes j'ai peut être (et certainement) une mauvaise prononciation donc personne ne sera la pour me corriger et j'ai pas envie de m'ancrer une mauvaise prononciation... je sais qu'écouter la radio en anglais, voire des films en vo etc forgent l'oreille mais n'aident pas à la prononciation. Alors ?

Filmes toi en train de faire un discours sur ta passion pour les avions, ou autre ... (sans lire un texte).
Analyse ensuite ta facon de parler, ton intonation, ton rythme, et vois tes points faibles/forts pour les corriger ensuite ...
