More speakers signed upfor Dubai Airshow's flight crew shortage conference
Posted on 9th November 2011The first annual Gulf Aviation Training Event (GATE 2011) has signed up more speakers who will address a number of serious issues facing the airline's capabilities to identify, acquire, train and deploy the pilots necessary to meet the rapid expansion planned by Middle East airlines over the next five years.

GATE 2011 is taking place on 14 and 15 November at Dubai Airport Expo during the Dubai Airshow (13-17 Nov), and is aimed at key policy-makers in flight training.

The theme of the conference is ‘Averting the Crisis: Selection & Training of Middle East-based Flight Crew for the Next Generation’, and the latest speakers signed up are Capt. Jacques Drappier, Senior Training Advisor for Airbus SAS, and Dr Othman Al Khoori, Vice President Human Resources Administration for Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), & General Manager GCAS.

They join speakers already confirmed from organisations that include flydubai and Pan Am International Flight Academy.

“The aviation industry is facing an unprecedented challenge,” said Keynote Speaker William Voss, President and CEO of US-based Flight Safety Foundation, who joins Captain Randolph Babbitt, Administrator of the US FAA, as Keynote Speakers. “We have upgraded technologies while neglecting the development of the people who need to use them. That leaves us in a very tough position as we struggle to develop a massive new generation of aviation.

“At Gate 2011 we have to face these fundamental issues that will affect the future of the aviation industry in the Middle East and elsewhere.”

The conference will culminate in the publishing of the first annual GATE Memorandum, a statement of position on current airline training-related issues from those delegates attending the conference.

"Exchanging ideas on how to select for the right skills and train large numbers effectively is something that should be encouraged between airlines; GATE offers just such an opportunity,” said Lee Woodward, Director of Business Development for CTC Aviation.

“This promises to be a conference with a difference - the panel discussions are targeted to evoke discussion, to challenge processes and develop innovative solutions to support our industry's future plans."

The GATE Pavilion, which will showcase flight training institutes in one of the Dubai Airshow exhibition halls, has recently welcomed two new exhibitors – Horizon Flight Academy and Spatial Composites.

Delegates wishing to participate in GATE 2011 will also have access to the full five days of the Dubai Airshow. Registration is online now at www.gates.aero

The Dubai Airshow is organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in association with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports and the UAE Armed Forces.
